The realities of travelling on a budget…
Whilst most kids his age had a full belly and were relaxing in the PJ’s at 8:30, Jaiden hadn’t had dinner and was busy being my right hand man as we worked on the car together. When the engine went in there was a couple of things that didn’t get checked, for those mechanically minded it was checking the lifter preload after we changed the heads. Whilst it was not a pressing issue it was something I wanted to get sorted whilst we were in an area to get parts if we needed them. I may or may not be slightly paranoid when it comes to mechanical stuff, but that’s another post altogether…
Because it’s been raining on and off for the past couple of days any chance we had to make progress we took, tonight the car was back together and now I have piece of mind everything is as it should be. Jaiden got the honours of doing the first start and he was ecstatic that all of his hard work had paid off when the car fired into life first go.
The realities of travelling on a limited budget means that driving the car to a mechanic every time something is wrong or needs checking is not something we can do. Instead, it’s spending hours on forums and YouTube learning what to do so we can tackle these things ourselves which in itself is a valuable lesson for Jaiden in that if you want to know how to do something, you can learn how to do literally anything with just a few clicks of a mouse.
Whilst for us this life is often lots of hard work, the work we put in makes it all that much more special when we can sit back and relax and enjoy the good times that come with living on the road.
