Oh the simple things…
What could possibly be exciting about water running out of a tap?!
Well, if you’ve ever spent time in an older caravan you’ll know that most of them are fitted with hand pumps, so something relatively simple like washing your hands or washing dishes becomes far more difficult. Not to mention when you’re 9 and struggle to pump it yourself!
Today, all that changed! I spent a few hours wiring and plumbing a 12v water pump to our caravan, meaning that with a simple turn of the tap, water comes out! Shock! It might seem trivial to many but these small additions make the world of difference when you’re living in a caravan full time and when it can be done for under $40, it works for us, being the budget conscious travellers we are.
One of the things I love most about living the way we do is how much you learn to appreciate the simple things in life. Be it an endless supply of running water or power, or just having a shower without having to try to not drop your towel or clean clothes inside a tiny shower cubicle..
Travelling cheaply might not be for everyone, but for people like us who cannot afford caravans (and caravan parks!) with all the bells and whistles, we take the good with the bad. The plus side is that it makes us so more appreciative when we’re able to live with the luxuries that so many take for granted.
